The third episode of Colin’s Music Corner!
In this episode my performances will feature a ring modulator and mallets – on guitar.
For the first performance I play a Stratocaster through a ring modulator and the usual gang of pedals. The ring modulator effect can be used to create rich drones, church bells, percussion…it’s wild but can also be controlled to create some really evocative sounds.
Anyhow, a recent rewatch of Forbidden Planet surely influenced some of my musical choices. Also, I can’t help but make a Mark Knopfler sound or two on a strat. (Can, Santolalla, Howe)
The second performance is on acoustic guitar, tuned to DADGAD, set in my lap like a dobro, and played with soft mallets to create soft, cascading gestures. To play melodies with my left hand, I had to hammer them on while keeping up the right hand mallet percussion. I hope you enjoy!
