Welcome to November’s Colin’s Music Corner. My gigging life has picked up in the past few months, with creative performances with saxophonist Ben Davis and bassist Robby Handley, cellist Deisha Oliver, Roger Ruzow and the Fourth Ward Afro Klezmer Orchestra, and Guitar Craft alum Rob Rushin.
I want to reiterate my hopes for this podcast:
One, that it is a virtual venue for long form content. No video means using one’s ears and mind to create connections and mental images. Or simply focus on the sound!
Two, to offer podcast listeners contemplative music in their preferred medium.
Three, I hope to help spread the concept of active listening, or deep listening, or whatever you like to call it. In short, listening can be a form of mindfulness, can aid in meditation or contemplation, or simply smooth out a crumpled mind at the end of a crazy day.
So, here are three long-ish pieces for you to do with as you will. In order, the tracks feature fretless bass with a cavernous reverb, electric guitar with effects, and the ARP synthesizer. Enjoy!
